Responsibilities

  • Assist in laboratory set up.
  • Assisting students in the laboratory by answering questions and providing support with procedures and/or instrument use
  • Maintaining a safe working environment, observing of all WHMIS and other laboratory safety protocols
  • Assist in laboratory clean up.
  • Attend planned course fieldtrips when significant field or laboratory activities will be taking place.

Teaching Assistants should not:

  • Grade student work
  • Have access to student marks or information beyond a list of student names
  • Work with students unless under the direct supervision of the instructor
  • Meet with students outside of the laboratory session

Qualifications

  • Candidate must have successfully completed (minimum grade of B+) the course they will TA. Equivalent course competency will be considered, for example a senior student majoring in a discipline could be considered for a non-majors course. For example, a 3rd year biology major would be suitable as a TA for BIOL290.
  • Good interpersonal skills and professional attitude
  • Candidate must be available during the time the lab is offered. Typically, this is three hours per week
  • Candidate must be available for a short meeting with the staff/faculty member teaching the lab to learn details of the weekly lab
  • Responsible for completing lab safety training as required. For example, students might need to complete the biosafety or chemistry safety quiz
  • Must maintain a minimum 3.0 GPA
  • Must be a fulltime King’s student in at least their 2nd year

2024/25 Fall/Winter Marking Assistants - Faculty of Natural Science

Under the supervision of the course/laboratory instructor, a Marking Assistant will grade assignments, quizzes, and/or laboratory assignments.

Marking Assistant Positions:

  • KINS207 (Fall Semester)
  • CHEM200/201 (Fall/Winter Semesters)
  • MATH200/205 (Fall/Winter Semesters)

Responsibilities

  • Assigning grades to assignments, quizzes, or laboratories in a course
  • Maintaining good communication with the instructor of the course
  • Following guidance from the instructor for assigning marks, with or without a formal rubric
  • Completing marking assignments in a reasonable time-period (typically 72 hours). The role typically requires between 4–8 hours per week, depending on the marking assignment and course/laboratory enrolment.
  • Returning the graded assignments to the instructor
  • Being fair and impartial in assigning marks
  • Must disclose any conflict of interest that may arise due to these duties (for example, making the instructor aware if the marker has a sibling or close friend in the course for which they are marking)
  • Maintain strict confidentiality about their role as a Marking Assistant and student grades

Marking Assistants should not:

  • Be returning physical copies of assignments
  • Be asked to consider requests from students to justify marking decisions
  • Meet with students to give feedback on assignments or to provide help sessions
  • Grade midterm or final examinations
  • Have access to student marks or information beyond a list of student names
  • Be given access to course grades other than those they are responsible for

Student Content Creator — Videography and Reels

Under the direction of the Social Media Specialist, the Student Content Creator – Videography and Reels is responsible for capturing and editing video content that conveys unique moments of King’s campus life. The focus of this position is to capture video footage that illustrates and conveys the on-campus and broader community life of King’s students. Specific attention will be given to documenting student life, residence, clubs, athletics, student government, and research. The student will have an excellent technical understanding of videography and editing for reels, be involved with life at King’s, be creative and flexible in a work environment, and active on social media platforms.

Responsibilities

  • Captures high-quality videos that are captivating, thoughtful, and trendy.
  • Works with the Student Media Team to produce content that furthers the vision of the King’s community.
  • Attends various in-person events at King’s to document life at King’s.
  • Stays up to date on what’s going on at King’s and is creative in capturing different events.
  • Comfortable with interviewing students (street-style interviews and formal interviews), and with asking interesting and engaging interview questions.
  • Able to keep up with trends on social media and to imagine how their videos might contribute to or build on a trend (while remaining within brand guidelines).
  • Works independently and collaboratively on assigned tasks and ensures that assignments are completed on time.
  • Excellent time management and strong team-commitment.

Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled in at least one course at King’s.
  • Experience in videography and video editing, required.
  • Experience with video/photo editing software (ex. Adobe Creative Cloud), required.

Student Content Creator — Interviews and Trends

Under the direction of the Social Media Specialist, the Student Content – Interviews and Trends is responsible for creating and furthering the online vibe of The King’s University on social media platforms. The focus of this role is to drum up ways in which King’s can best participate in online trends and to work collaboratively with the rest of the Student Media Team in bringing these ideas to fruition. The person in this role must be comfortable in front of the camera and in interacting with other students, faculty, and staff on campus. The student will have an excellent ability to ask questions, carry a conversation, keep up with social media trends and campus life at King’s, and creative and flexible in a work environment.

Responsibilities

  • Work as a front-facing brand ambassador for King’s who creatively highlights different aspects of university life and community.
  • Works collaboratively and regularly with the Student Media Team to produce content that captures the energy and vibe of King’s.
  • Attends in-person events to document life at King’s.
  • Stays up to date with what’s going on at King’s and is creative in generating interesting conversations with students, staff, and faculty.
  • Strong ability to keep up with trends on social media and to imagine how the Student Media Team might participate in these trends (while remaining within brand guidelines).

Academic Support Worker
Centre for Teaching and Learning

The King’s University student studying history looking for an academic support worker (ASW) who will support students with their schoolwork. They will offer assistance with scribing, writing, reading, and math. Please note that ASW is not a tutoring position. 

This individual will need to have excellent reading and writing skills and have an understanding of both grammar and spelling. 

Meetings will be conducted either in person or online.  

Some tasks may also include:

- Recording reading materials.  

- Typing

- Writing

- Proofreading

- Finding important information in reading materials,

In terms of flexibility, the schedule is ideal for the hours will flex depending on our schedules. It will be 6 hours a week and may hire more than one person for the position. This will be for the 2024-2025 Academic year from August 29 to April 29, 2025.

Student Cleaner
Infrastructure

Under the supervision of the Director of Facilities, the person in this position will be responsible for cleaning of the building, furniture, and equipment and other day to day maintenance of the University’s 270,000 sq. ft. campus

Responsibilities

Cleaning of the facilities including but not limited to vacuuming and dusting, cleaning and maintaining walls, floors, carpets, windows, washrooms, furnishings, and housekeeping duties.
• Perform other light cleaning, housekeeping and miscellaneous duties as assigned by the Lead Custodian
• Some grounds maintenance or assistance may be required from time to time.

Must be able to perform routine tasks for light to heavy physical exertion.
Ability to communicate effectively and work cooperatively with students, staff and the public

Qualifications

  • Experience and knowledge in cleaning practices and techniques.
  • Skill in care and use of cleaning materials
  • Minimum grade 8 education. Grade 12 preferred
  • Ability to perform routine tasks requiring some manual dexterity; from light to heavy physical exertion.
  • Ability to take initiative and work without direct supervision.
  • Some work experience in a commercial, institutional or industrial setting is preferred
  • Ability to communicate effectively and work cooperatively with students, staff and the public
