Amidst continued student growth and the launch of brand-new science programs, we are excited to welcome six professors to our faculty as we advance the project of Christian higher education in Edmonton.

Dr. Ki-Yong An has been appointed as professor of kinesiology and chair of our kinesiology department. Dr. An has spent the past eight years studying exercise oncology with a view to improving cancer patient outcomes through customized exercise programs. A priority across the entirety of his teaching approach is to demonstrate to students how motion and exercise can be acts of worship.

Our Department of Psychology is pleased to welcome Dr. Catherine Laskowski as an assistant professor in the program. Dr. Laskowski comes to King’s with an extensive background in neuroscience and human health. Focusing on decision making and behavioural addictions such as gambling, Laskowski’s research explores how pharmacological treatments and their efficacy reduces harmful gambling urges and behaviour. She strives to teach her students that studying the brain is part of understanding God's creation, and aims to help people who are struggling find healthier, more fulfilling lives.

Joining the Faculty of Social Science is Dr. Kennedy Chi-Pan Wong, assistant professor of sociology. A cultural and political sociologist, Dr. Wong completed his PhD at the University of Southern California. His faith encourages him to see his research not only as an intellectual pursuit, but as a calling to serve others as well. He is currently investigating the political and transnational impacts of global migration patterns and is working on a book entitled Multipolar Politics: Challenges of Global Alliance-Building Against Authoritarianism.

Jeff Miller has been a sessional instructor and lecturer in our business program since 2019 and is now joining King's full-time as an assistant professor of accounting. His teaching focuses on professional accounting practices, global Christian partnerships, and empowering communities faced with unemployment and poverty. As an accountant, Miller sees the underlying motivation of his work as an act of spiritual worship. He and his family enjoy camping, and he recently completed the 120-mile TransRockies Run in Colorado!

This fall, Dr. Mary Owusu joins King’s as an assistant professor in history. She has held several research fellowships across North America and in Europe. She specializes in issues of marginalization, postcolonialism, and the history of the Black Atlantic. Dr. Owusu’s faith encourages her to pay close attention to the voices and contexts of historical actors. She resists the temptation to judge these figures by contemporary standards, instead aiming to understand their actions and motivations within the complexities of their time.

Finally, Dr. Constantino Sanchez joins our Faculty of Education as an assistant professor, having previously served as a sessional and field instructor in King’s education program. Dr. Sanchez began his educational career as a grade school math teacher and, after completing his PhD in Educational Management at Saint Louis University, Philippines, found his calling in preparing future educators. Today, his research interests include inclusive pedagogies and DEI within educational settings.

Please join us in welcoming these gifted educators!
