Bianca's Cherry Orchard Experience
Hi Friends!
Yay for the month of May! The days are getting longer and the sun is shining a lot more which means that it’s almost summer and I am so ready. In light of the upcoming summer months, I thought I’d share a little bit of my experience with cherry picking as it is such a great way to spend some of your days in the summer. If you ever feel a need for fresh fruits, I suggest going strawberry, blueberry or any kind of fruit picking!
Last summer, my family and I went to Kelowna B.C for a summer road trip. Among the many adventures and sightseeing places we came across, we really wanted to try cherry picking as we have never gone before! So we drove to a place called Kempf Orchards U-Pick Cherries. It was so magical. There were trees left, right and center, with fresh, bright red cherries growing on every part of every tree! This was a family business ran by a cute little lady and her family who only grew cherries for a living in the summer.
When we got there, they had a cute little sign and a set up in their garage. The lady in charge of the orchard was at the very end of the open ended garage to tell us what we were to expect when we walked in their backyard (it was a very big backyard by the way). She told us that there were different areas in their backyard that had different kinds of cherries! Some of the cherries were not ready to be picked yet so there were guides to direct us to which ones are ready. After all that, we picked up the buckets that they had set out for us, and away we went!
When my family and I entered the backyard, it was just a sea of green and red. There were trees all lined up in rows and ladders placed in different spots for your convenience. We started picking from different areas of the field and filled our pails until our hearts were content! At the very end of our cherry picking, we were able to wash your hands in a little sink they had set out right before the exit. They even gave us a little Ziploc bag so we could wash a few cherries and eat them on our ride home!
The people, the atmosphere, and everything about this cherry orchard made my experience so fun and full of life. I would definitely do it again. This experience made me want to go every kind of fruit picking there is. If you are interested in going fruit picking, the first step is to do some research. You never know what kind of areas offer fruit picking near you!
I hope you had enjoyed this story of my experience and I hope it has encouraged you to go cherry picking yourself this summer! If you have any questions or decide to visit an orchard, take some pictures and comment them down below!
That’s all for now, thanks for tuning in!
Yours Truly,
Bianca
