Black History Month at King's

Feb 09, 2021

February is Black History Month, which is about celebrating the contributions and stories of Black Canadians and their communities. This month, Student Life is running various activities to recognize and celebrate Black History Month.

Trivia Game Kahoot

This past week Student life ran a Kahoot trivia game to encourage students to engage further and learn more about black culture. The top five winners received $20 gift cards to local businesses in Edmonton; supporting local black-owned businesses is one great way to honour and celebrate Black History Month. If you did not get a chance to participate in the trivia contest, don’t worry, there are still more activities to come!

Cultural Lunch

On February 25th, Student Life will also be hosting a cultural lunch featuring Nigerian Jollof rice. Watch for updates in your King’s email. You will not want to miss out on this one!

Weekly Features

Student Life will also be featuring black businesses and figures every Tuesday on their Instagram page. One great way of celebrating Black History Month is educating yourself, so keep your eyes open to learn about some incredible individuals!

This month it is incredibly important that we take time to educate ourselves and reflect on black history. To learn more about Black History Month and why it’s important, check out the Government of Canada website for some great resources and information.
