Health and Fitness Tips for Finals Season

Dec 08, 2020

With final exams quickly approaching, physical health and fitness is incredibly important. It can be difficult to find time and at this point, even a space to exercise and workout. Here are some tips on how to continue being active during finals:

Find a method of working out that you really enjoy. When trying to stay active it’s easy to feel discouraged and want to give up when you’re forcing yourself to do something you don’t enjoy. There are a lot of different ways to work out that aren’t the typical cardio or weight training. I really enjoy Zumba, and while classes aren’t running right now due to restrictions, there are a lot of videos that you can watch for free on YouTube. I have found that it’s easier to stay motivated after finding something that I enjoy. Don’t limit your options when choosing a workout, try new things, you never know what you may like!

Schedule a time that you will dedicate to working out every day. It can be easy to get caught up in a busy schedule or using all your time for studying. Keeping a routine makes it easier to be consistent and ensures that you’re taking the time to care for your physical wellness.

Use your study break as an exercise time. In finals season, you may feel overwhelmed and tempted to dedicate all your time to studying. This is definitely not a healthy approach, but when taking a study break you may feel like you’re wasting precious study time. Using your study break to exercise can help you feel like your time is going to good use.

Invest in some equipment. You might think it’s easier to simply improvise and use what you have around the house. It’s okay to do that occasionally, but you may find that having the proper equipment at home will make your exercises easier and possibly more enjoyable.

Create a separate space, if you can, for working out. Set up your equipment in a manner that makes sense to you. I often use my garage as a workout space as it’s normally empty. If you have a similar space in your home, you may find it useful to set it up for working out. It can be easier to fulfill tasks when they have a separate area, as your mind will get used to having certain spaces for specific uses.

I hope these tips help keep you motivated and help you to continue practicing physical wellness during finals season.

Good luck with all your finals,
Lindsay
