Simple Staycation Ideas

Jul 09, 2021

Normally when I think of summer, I think of vacation! But sometimes, planning a vacation can be stressful. If you are looking for something simpler, a staycation is the perfect idea for you. You can enjoy a little vacation from the comfort of your own home or in your town or city; check out King’s Guide to Edmonton for some activities and places to see right here in YEG! If you want more inspiration, I’ve created a little list to give you some ideas for how you can spend your staycation. Let’s begin!

Camping

Why not set up a tent in your own backyard? S’mores, ghost stories around the fire, and stargazing; these are all possible in your backyard. You can even try indoor camping by setting up your tent inside or making a blanket fort!

Movie Marathon

Why don’t we spice this one up by bringing a projector outside and recreating an outdoor theatre? You can plan a themed movie night or watch all the movies in a series. One of my favorites is the Harry Potter series.

At-Home Spa

This one is definitely a classic staycation idea. You can set the mood in your own home by playing some music and lighting a candle or turning on a diffuser. Then take the time to do a mani-pedi, face and hair masks, all the things you need to unwind and relax. Pamper yourselves!

Picnic

You can have a picnic anywhere: in your yard, on your patio, even in your living room! Just set up a blanket and some throw pillows with some of your favorite snacks and drinks.

Learn a new hobby

If there is something you have been wanting to learn how to do and have not had the time to try, a staycation could be the perfect time to pick it up. This could be short term, such as learning a new recipe, or long-term, such as painting, photography, or learning a new instrument.

Weekend Getaway

If you don’t want to spend your staycation at home, a little weekend getaway is the next best thing. Visit a nearby town or city, book a hotel or Airbnb, and spend your weekend sightseeing and exploring. I recommend going to a place you’ve never been to or that you haven’t visited in a long time.

Even though you are not hopping on a plane or taking a long drive to a particular destination, treat it like a real vacation and enjoy yourself. Get creative with it!

Enjoy your staycation!
