Bangladesh

Ever dreamed of riding in a rickshaw along the colourful streets of Dhaka, or walking along the banks of the world’s most famous rivers?

Have you thought of walking in the company of millions in one of the world’s most densely populated cities?Have you wanted to chew on sugar cane, pluck fresh mangoes, and enjoy authentic curry? How about a visit to one of Mother Teresa’s orphanages in Old Dhaka?

Sound like you? Then join Rickshaws Rivers and Community Development, a study tour in Bangladesh sponsored by the Micah Centre in partnership with World Renew.

The study tour is two and a half weeks and takes us from the slums of Dhaka to the emerald rice paddies of northern Bangladesh with a side trip to the Sundarbans, the world’s largest remaining mangrove forest. The purpose of the study tour is to discover and understand how a country like Bangladesh is being transformed one village at a time through the successes of community development programs. Be guests of World Renew, an organization with a lengthy history and a wonderful legacy in Bangladesh. Listen to presentations made by seasoned veterans of the development world and lectures by local historians, and learn about the customs and beliefs of people groups in Bangladesh, including tribal peoples from the Northern hill country.

Students can earn credit in SSCI300 by attending this trip (required for the Micah certificate), or can join in for the learning and experience.
